Don’t Sell Your Product, Sell Your “Secret Sauce!”

– A Business Coaching Blog by: Reiki Reverend, Ph.D.

I gave a student of mine a writing assignment on this quote for a business coaching session that was a part of her Reiki lessons.

She was doing tarot readings in-between her primary work and her lessons as an income-hobby that could help her achieve larger goals with the right audience to market for her spiritual business later.

The problem she quickly ran into with marketing her psychic readings is that she was having difficulty marketing to her target audience.

For those who don’t know, marketing and business in psychic readings can be very competitive due to the constant demand for both the cards and readings. Because of this, it can be very stressful for anyone starting out.

Even more, if you want a large enough audience to begin developing a sustainable income.

As I explained to her, there is always a way to diversify your services from others. As long as the differences are understandable and relatable, this can happen easily.

From there, you can retain more people by choosing to personally engage with them in a way that best helps them get to know you and your brand.

I had channeled an interesting quote after our coaching session and shared it with her as well as some questions for an assignment.

“Which parts of this quote resonate most with you?”
“How would you frame this in a way that works best for what you do?”

“Don’t Sell Your

Product,

Sell

You.

Don’t

Sell

“You,”

Show Your Value!!!

I shared the quote, knowing it may have been a bit cryptic, to help her naturally develop her own type of mindset as to how she could naturally acquire new clients.

Some people understand business as math. In spiritual business, this almost always equals a bad experience when paired with how people would engage with you for business.

How well do you know your favorite Udemy Instructor or Youtube personality? Are they the type to post most of their content about their field, business, life, or all of them?

Are you more likely to go back to a teacher who only offered you light reading and a piece of paper (or bits of data) that simply states that you read the material and emailed them to let them know?

What of energetic exchange? Are you or your client receiving equal parts to your perception of the work you do?

For psychic readings, do you just skip over people who ask for a message over someone who just pops in with money?

My life on the way to this point in time was very challenging.

I was constantly being pressured, pushed, guided, and sometimes what felt like teleported to the next person, place, or lesson in ways I couldn’t identify for years.

I couldn’t handle enough to feel safe enough to breathe, let alone think about why until much later in life.

When I did, it gave me an opportunity for growth that may not have been met honorably without the hardship.

The details can be captivating, and I wouldn’t be surprised if it made for a great story thanks to the perspective I have for it in the now.

Some of you right now may be curious enough to read about some parts of my life through present eyes.

So why NOT shape your story, or even perspective, in a way that could benefit a part of the marketing process for services?

Talking about your hardships, struggles, and even challenges can show people that you are passionate and mean business.

That you have met and endured what was placed before you on this spiritual path. Choosing to use what you have been through as a tool for growth.

Experiences that could easily keep you thinking about what wisdom or skills you have to offer others.

On the inside, knowing that what you were doing for others can personally feel as if it could never be placed at a monetary value.

Why Do We Sell Spiritual Gifts As Services, What Kind Of Spiritual Services Should I Sell, And Why Is My “Burger” Any Better Than Dave’s?

Why do we sell spiritual gifts as services?

We sell our time that we spend using our gifts because we’re worth it.
As an individual who was born here from the world of spirit to live.
As a partner, mate, or family member.

While this is a truth that resonates differently with some than others, our survival on this planet matters to the whole of humanity. So does the energetic importance of the work that we do both as practitioners.

We ask for money to have our work be known as ours, respected for what it is, and seen by all that it can reach.

To do all manners of spiritual work solely as a charity would likely cause it to either find a way to this place again naturally or be released logically for something that can return what finances, time, or effort was put into your work. Most generally, it’s something that can help pay for the mandatory costs of life not necessarily universally covered by Spirit’s plan.

There will always be people in this world who would quickly dismiss the thoughts of receiving impactful work for absolutely nothing.

While it’s possible to work this way anyway in solidarity, it is not so practical when it comes to common life.

One opinion I have commonly seen vocalized is very understandable.

We do this work for free because our breath is free, we give our energy to channel freely because our life and connections to the channels are free.

Well, when you’ve been using money that you could have put towards other goals into learning how to do something such as energy healing it can be quite costly.

Also what tends to go unseen is time you may be spending doing free work when there are needs that must be met for the house or in some cases your children.

Eventually, there will come a time when you realize that if you are to work for free, you must sustain a living for yourself and your family. If you want to work with Spirit as a 24/7 lifestyle, this thought may come sooner.

In my opinion, there should never be any shame placed towards anyone’s pursuit of happiness that seeks to harm none.

What kind of spiritual services should you sell?

Each generation growing in a way that will always be similar to the former, but constantly evolving from the place they started in.

So, why reinvent yourself, or even the foundations for the methods you use?

If your method for practice, marketing, or even sales already works, just keep working at it until you feel like it is most in alignment with who you are as a person.

No need to rush yourself into a radical approach, or even create too much change for your audience. Be yourself every step of the way, and let the rest speak from your actions.

Finally, your “burgers,” or quality of service, being better than Dave’s is really up to what you consider better.

Anyone who is content with their business could tell you how successful their business is with or without giving you numbers if they’re happy about it.

What gives the success of each business so much diversity is within the perception of the owner.

Use that same perception as a tool to help others see why your “burgers” are better and market with that. From here, it’s not about what you do, but about who you wish to naturally attract and keep as an audience.

Instead of making a business about your product or service, let it be about what really matters.

Let it become a reflection of your journey for others to see, feel, or simply experience.

That’s The Secret of The “Secret Sauce.”

It is very important to not only know how to sell our product, but why it means so much to us. Our personal testimony is essential in connecting others to our product. It is through our story that others will relate and want to be a part of it as well.
